Lead DevOps Engineer (Permanent)

Location: Hampshire/London/Bristol  Country: UK Rate: £65k - £80k
 

Opportunity to join a pivotal DevOps practice of a fast growing digital services firm, leading on critical change programmes in the public sector.

This is an opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies and lead on projects that make a tangible difference to people's lives. The Lead DevOps Consultant fulfils an important role, working with clients and colleagues to embrace modern principles for the development and deployment of software and machine learning platforms. Our client has seen extensive success building data and cloud solutions over the last decade and with increasing pipeline, we are growing the DevOps & Infrastructure team. As the Lead you will shape the foundation upon which these innovative platforms are built.

This role offers a unique chance to guide and mentor a high-growth team, transforming the IT landscape for Defence organisations across the UK and Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable infrastructure platforms that support mission-critical applications and services.
  • Develop advanced automation frameworks, scripts and tools to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to software development and DevOps teams, ensuring smooth integration and deployment of applications.
  • Oversee the management and optimisation of cloud infrastructure on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Lead the implementation and management of CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth and continuous delivery of software updates.
  • Ensure infrastructure security best practices are followed and maintained.
  • Direct the maintenance and optimisation of systems, ensuring they are updated regularly and compliant with security, regulatory, and performance standards.
  • Implement robust monitoring and performance tuning to maintain high availability and accommodate capacity for future growth.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning by staying up to date with tools and technologies, participation in training and development and the coaching of other engineers.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Circa 5yrs+ commercial DevOps/Cloud Infrastructure experience, preferably gained in a professional services environment, leading teams and projects.
  • Experience of designing and delivering scalable DevOps solutions in a mission-critical environment such as Defence, Healthcare or Financial Services.
  • Expertise in leveraging modern platform/containerisation/IaaS technologies including AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, VMWare, Terraform, Ansible
  • Strong infrastructure technical skills including command line configuration, networking, Firewalls, hardware and systems administration in MS/Linux OS environments.
  • Experience working in public sector environments and strong appreciation for working to Government Digital Standards and as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • This is a role for a highly motivated and proactive leader, with a passion for leveraging cutting-edge technologies and mentoring teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
