The Oracle Database Systems Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, provisioning and configuring of database systems to meet business needs and requests. It is essential for the Database System Engineer to demonstrate good analytical and communication skills, develop project plans, and successfully work with a team to execute project plans to completion. Candidates should be able to adapt to rapidly changing environments and technology.

The Oracle Database System Engineer is responsible for administration, capacity planning, engineering/design, system monitoring and performance optimization for the Oracle Database platform. The Oracle Database System Engineer will use tools to resolve issues and provide tuning recommendations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oracle Production and Development Databases

  • Wintel and Linux systems that support systems infrastructure

  • VSphere Environments w/Multiple ESXi Clusters

  • Daily Oracle Reports

  • Oracle Data Guard Database Replication

  • Oracle WebLogic System Administration

  • Developing project plans and coordinating with a team to execute database solutions for various projects and operational needs.

  • Install new/rebuild existing databases, Servers, software, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with database standards and project/operational requirements.

  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for database systems. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

  • Perform database trending and performance analysis utilizing Oracle tools and provide future infrastructure capacity planning.

  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and provide mentoring for escalated issues.

  • Respond and react to outages immediately and coordinate and communicate with impacted users or entities until resolution.

  • Apply OS & Oracle patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.

  • Maintain database documentation for operational, configuration, or other procedural purposes.

  • Perform ongoing database performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.

  • Maintain security of Oracle Databases.

  • Administer Oracle Active Data Guard replication.

  • Administer Oracle WebLogic systems.

  • Rotated 24/7 on-call duty

  • Occasional travel required


  • Bachelor (4-year) degree (or equivalent experience)

  • 6-10 years system administration, engineering, or architect experience

  • 5+ years of Oracle database administration or engineering

  • Relevant certifications
