Reporting to the Manager of Access Planning, the Sr. Network Planner will be responsible for driving solutions for new access architectures (CWDM/DWDM). This individual will take a lead role on Process definition and creation, ensure network guidelines are followed and kept up to date, work on network expansion, product development, and RFP support. Success in this position will require keeping up to date on market trends in non-standard service delivery and new transport and Metro Ethernet topologies. The Sr. Network Planner will be required to integrate any changes into existing processes and also assist with process development. This position will interface with numerous cross function teams including EBU Marketing and Sales, Transport Planning, IP Planning, Technology, etc.

. Position Responsibilities

  • Assume a lead role in understanding existing and new access topologies as they relate to customer solutions.
  • Assume a lead role related to Intercompany activity as it relates to Network, working closely with EBU team primes to ensure a successful delivery and tracking method for internal department service requirements.
  • Take prime ship related to cost savings initiatives and see them through to the end.
  • Collect customer requirements and design customer solutions leveraging Roger's footprint.
  • Understand market trends related to servicing customers over various network architectures.
  • Fully research access layer topology and drive any changes into the organization.
  • This individual will take a lead role on topology of new POP, Access layer technology development, and RFP support.
  • Understand today's processes and operations and find ways to increase efficiencies.
  • Interface with other Planning groups to develop the most cost effective network solutions for customers with the most efficient use of Rogers' network resources. The overall goal is to reduce SOI's and provide service to customer as quickly as possible while ensuring proper support and lowest cost to the company.
  • Work with Core Network, Cost and Deal management teams to determine most technically feasible and cost effective options for customer implementation.
  • Support the finance organization in interpreting cost information and financial metrics to ensure costing methodologies are applied consistently.
  • Provide support in tracking and reporting of related KPIs.
  • Other ad-hoc projects as required.

Position Requirements

  • University degree or technical diploma in engineering or telecommunications
  • 7 years of work experience in a telecommunication service provider or IT services organization
  • In-depth knowledge of fibre and copper infrastructure and technology
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of DWDM and CWDM topologies, Transport Network design, HFC, Ethernet, Private Line, SONET and other optical network services
  • Knowledge of the design and implementation of telecom carrier network services such as Local/LD Voice, Private Lines, GigE, ATM, Frame, Internet and MPLS
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent skills in translating technical designs into high level network diagrams
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Excellent business writing and communication skills
  • Self-starter and quick learner who is able to work well under pressure and tight timelines with minimum supervision
  • A strategic thinker who is able to think out-of-the-box and see the big picture
